Layers

Cars are all lined up in rows

Waiting on an arrow to let me go

Going through motions, walking cold

Forgot again I'm running through time

Slammed the breaks, then I saw

Beyond the circle, they look so small

Watching lines form and carry the past over years

Then the dust settles down

Time will peel layers back on my heart in my head

Standing up all exposed

I don’t mind sharing the same front door

Went to one again, you knew I would

Different yet all the same

Sat in chairs that were a mirage

Am I numb inside?

Look closer and I’ll reappear

Barely see it, never gone

Moving like the morning sun

And into its arms

Watching lines form and carry the past over years

Then the dust settles down

Time will peel layers back on my heart in my head

Standing up all exposed

Seeing soil contour shapes I don't like

And there's no way to stop them now

We could peel all the memories we want

You're repeating the words I know

I don’t mind sharing the same front door
